Jim Christianson, writing under the pen name of James Julsen in honor of his Scandinavian heritage, has been a resident of Alaska for fifty-one years. He now resides in Big Lake, Alaska, with his wife, the heroine of this novel.
Over the years, he has worked in nearly every corner of the state, and every major region having built over thirty-six bridges as owner-operator of his own construction company. His familiarity with the oil boom in Alaska goes back to when he installed the conductor pipes for the discovery well at Prudhoe Bay, still the largest oil reserve in the nation. He has owned and captained his own crab fishing boat in the famous and dangerous Alaska king crab fisheries in the Bering Sea.
Jim has helped build Alaska from its frontier days to the modern infrastructure now presenting itself in national and international affairs. Along the way, over five decades, he has observed both the successes and failures in the evolution of Western culture.
He began writing this book twenty years ago on an outing on the shores of Lake Mead, Nevada. At that moment, he thought about what an outside observer, such as a visitor from another planet, might say to concerned citizens of Earth on the current state of affairs. Thus, the idea for this book began, and over the years he kept adding to the story as he watched events unfold.
His concern for the planet and his passion for the topics and subjects presented in this book is real and heartfelt. He hopes to pass his collected thoughts on to each reader as a "warning" but also as a hope for the future when humankind will come to grips with its excesses.
